If I could say just one thing to my birthmother it would be “thank you!” My name is Dan and I was adopted at birth into an amazingly supportive, loving and positive household. I grew up with two amazing parents and an older sister, all who’ve helped shape me into the man I am today. The reason I would say thank you is because without my birthmother’s incredibly selfless decision to put me up for adoption, I would have never known this amazing life I have now.
I am now 28 years old, love traveling, surfing, riding bikes and love my career as a firefighter-paramedic in Orange County. I have always known I was adopted, it was never a secret or taboo subject in my household. In fact, I felt extremely lucky to be adopted and end up where I did. I took this attitude towards every challenge I faced and every tough time I had in life. I always remember how lucky I am to have the support system that I do and the love that I feel every day.
I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to come to the decision of adopting, but in my case and all the cases of my friends who are also adopted or have adopted, it has led to an amazing life and truly making a family whole. In my case I would not change a thing. I owe it all to my birthmother and adoptive parents for affording me the opportunities to be successful, and the feeling of love and support that I grew up with.
Thank you!
-Dan
